A Knight ‘ale

Season 1

Part I

In the first part of A Knight ‘ale, we get to know Donnie’s road to the beginning of the tenth school year.  He’s just turned 15, and its 5 days till school is starting again. The only thing is that it will not be a normal year. Therefore, we must learn a little about Donnie before his destiny starts to kick in.

Donnie is a normal schoolboy, interested in fantasy novels. That’s everything he reads and writes. Donnie’s dream is to become a writer of epic fantasy, such as Harry Potter, Inheritance-cycle, Lord of the Rings, His Dark Materials and anything from Neil Gaiman. He has already begun to plot this epic fantasy-story, when a friend lends him the book-series called the Time Quintet, by Madeleine L’Engle. This book-series will not only change his writing and taste of books, but also his whole life.

Donnie has some friends. Together they’ve formed a book circle, and they are all extremely interested in both fantasy and science fiction. Donnie, however, is just beginning to discover science fiction, and he thinks that is equally good. The book-circle is named The League of Morons.

But Donnie has another life than the one with The League of Morons; He’s in love with the one girl who thinks she is his best friend. They are not together as boyfriend-girlfriend, they are just friends. But while Lora is looking for a friendship, Donnie is looking for something else entirely. The only problem is that first he has to get Lora to understand this, and secondly he has to find out a way to get a yes from her big brother named Richard, which is constantly watching both Donnie and Lora.

Donnie’s best friend (and co-founder of The League of Morons) is named Richard (yes, the same Richard as in Lora’s brother). His nickname, however, is Castle. All of the members in the League have nicknames which relates to kings, princes and princesses (although no lady’s are in the League yet) in both fantasy novels and medieval reality.

-        Donnie and Castle – founders aka The Kings

-        Daniel – Prince

-        Richard – Prince

-        Adder – Servant

The servant is the lowest rank you can have in the League. You have to read 5 fantasy and/or science fiction books in a row to become a prince. Prince/princess is the highest rank, to become king you have to have founded the League. And the League is already founded.

Additionally, we have Donnie’s family, which is an interesting one. We have his mother, Rachel, a single mother. What happened to his father is a very important mystery that we will have to answer rather fast. He disappeared three years ago, when Donnie was 12 years old. The story of his disappearance is very important for Donnie’s background story, and why the hell his destiny is to fight in an epic clash between good and evil when he was born in the normal world. (Or was he?)

Now, this is the basis story of A Knight ‘ale. This is also the story that the first part (5 episodes) is about. When we arrive at the 5th episode of the series, and Part I is done, all of this background story will have to be told. That means the episode order will be like this:

  • Episode 1 – Donnie

-        In which we meet Donnie, his family and arrive at the meeting of The League of Morons

  • Episode 2 – Morons and Love

-        In which we are witness to a fascinating meeting at the League, meet Lora (the love of his life) and her brother, Richard

  • Episode 3 – Epic Friends and Wrinkles in Time

-        In which Donnie and friends are laying the final hands on their fantasy project, and Donnie starts reading Wrinkle in Time which Richard lends him

  • Episode 4 – Dates, time, Lora and family

-        In which Donnie has an idea for his book, goes on a date with Lora and digs further into his father’s past

  • Episode 5 – EotWaWKI

-        (In which it is the End of the World as We Know It)

-        School starts up again; we meet all his friends at school and they’re having a ball. Then, they begin with medieval times in History Class, and as the teacher describes one of the battles, Donnie suddenly burst out; “That’s not how it happened…” The teacher starts to reply, but is interrupted by the principal’s voice which delivers the message that; “Every student and teacher will have to get out of the school this instant!” Then, we hear a gunshot. Part I end when we see Donnie running for his life and hear a large CRACK! Then BOOM!

Part II

With the mysterious ending of Part I, we now have a real exiting storyline to follow and unravel. The second part begins with a cut of Donnie’s father, who’s calculating something really advanced. Donnie comes in and asks what he’s doing. His father answers; “I’m trying to get you on your path.”

Cut to Donnie, who’s lying on a football field by his school. There is nothing left of it, just a BIG crater. And deep down in the crater is a hatch, on which it stands; “Destiny is like white rabbit”.

Donnie’s puzzled by this, and it is always bugging him. School is off, and this leads to an expedition in the woods which ends in the discovery of a body; a murder has happened. But the murder is not normal. The body they’ve found was buried beneath the ground. There was emptiness down there. They do nothing, only wonders. (This is the first sign that the future will come to pass)

As Donnie is giving his father’s old research files for his 15th birthday, he wonders why the hell his destiny is to fight in an epic clash between good and evil, as the files say. It does not comprehend; He is born in the 21st century, like all of his friends. Or is he?

Donnie is getting to feel strange now. All of his concentration goes into the study of his fathers old files. When he’s not doing that, he’s reading Time Quintet. He is equally fascinated by both, as it seems that his father was making a time machine, but why? Was he going to send Donnie back in time? But that’s just absurd. Right…?

As Donnie is getting more and more into his fathers wondering, he suddenly sees the phrase “Destiny is like White Rabbit”, and calls all of his friends to an extraordinary meeting in The League of Morons.  Adder is the only one that can’t come, and Richard also brings his sister, Lora. So we have Daniel, Donnie, Richard and Lora at the meeting.

When they arrive, Donnie tells them about his father’s notebooks; the men in black, time travels, his own destiny, and the phrase “Destiny is like White Rabbit”. They totally believe him, and together they ponder on whether the body in the woods has anything to do with this. (IT HAS!) But then when Donnie says that an expedition into the hatch under the school must be executed, everyone leaves.

The next day, they all show up again, believing it’s the right thing to do. Richard says that the phrase “Destiny is like White Rabbit” probably means that they have to follow destiny as Alice followed the White Rabbit into Wonderland. They assemble a team, and finds things they may need for their journey; Donnie brings both the Time Quintet and his father’s research files.

As they move down the hatch, they find it is remarkably easy to open; they just have to put in the meaning of the phrase, which is “Follow it!” As they do, Richard and Donnie pulls the hatch open, and goes down into a tiny room. The others follow them. Donnie goes through his father’s files and finds out that they’re in a machine of his creation. Although it seems more dated and less advanced than the one on the images.  Donnie then follows the files of his father, pushes some buttons and suddenly the whole room is vibrating. They are all scared, and when a flash comes along, someone says “See you in another life, bruttah!” This is the end of Part II.

So, the episode order is much like this:

  • Episode 6 – Aftershock of the Path

-        In which Donnie’s father starts to become vital, and the findings of a special hatch leads to a walk in the woods

  • Episode 7 – The Body that Came to Pass Time

-        In which the body is found and the Time Quintet continues

  • Episode 8 – Happy Birthday!

-        In which Donnie’s birthday is celebrated, and a tremendously important gift is received

  • Episode 9 – Donnie’s Time

-        In which Donnie reads a lot, discovers some vital things, a theory is born and a meeting is executed

  • Episode 10 – The End of another Time

-        In which the after effects of the meeting begin to emerge, Adder is left behind and an expedition is slated

Part III

Part I & II are now finally done, and we can really go in depth to the next epic part in the series, in which the real plotline is getting more and more unraveled. This part starts with the ending. But only that last bit. Then, all of our characters are plunged into time, and they end up in the medieval. It is time to get some answers! And this they will get. Especially when they meet Donnie’s father at the end of the episode, that will be after they’ve walked around in this strange world and maybe changed the past. (SHIT!) But in the next episode, it is clear that they haven’t: Donnie’s father can tell them this. Everything is as it should be. But the kids still got a mighty bunch of questions. Like; what the hell are we doing here? Where are we? What brought us here? What are YOU doing here? And why was this under our school? “Well”, Donnie’s father begins. “All of these questions will be answered, in time. Right now, I’m going to bed. And so should you.” The next morning, Donnie’s father, Walter, begins to tell them a story; a story about a mighty knight which is supposed to save a kingdom from the forces of evil. “It begins before the medieval time”, he tells them. “A baby was born, and most of the people were happy. I say most, because it was someone that wasn’t happy. In fact, they weren’t happy at all. The people that were sad when the news of the baby arrived had contacts in the Magic of Shadows, an evil group, some might say, which had longed for a long time to take over the kingdom. And now, with the baby, their plan was corrupted. You see, in this kingdom two kinds of magic were used, and every citizen had to choose which side he was on; the Magic of Light, or the Magic of Shadows. It had long ago been a clash between these forces, and the Magic of Shadows was banished to live underground. There, they planned their revenge on the Magic of Light and the coming of their great newly born magician, whose destiny was, according to the prophecies, to lead the Magic of Shadows were they should always have been; in control of everything.” Here, Walter is interrupted by someone knocking on the door; it is the palace guards, sent to see if there are any newcomers present. The kids are terribly frightened; they fear what will happen to them now. But as Walter opens the door, he explains everything. “Sorry that I didn’t check them in last night; I know how scared we all are of the impostors, but there was nobody at the station, and I dared not speak to anyone else that late at night. They are my brother’s sons and his friends, and they come from a land in crisis right now. I suppose you may have heard about it?” The palace guards leave the building, and Walter explains: “This city is the capital, and here they are tight on the people that walk in and out. We are all afraid of the Shadows of Night, as they call themselves. This is also the only city and land that keeps records of the inhabitants; they will come again later to ask you about your name. Until then, let’s continue the story.” This is the last that happens in this episode.

In the next episode, Walter continues his great story about the ongoing fight between the Shadows of Night and the Light of Day. “When the chosen boy was born, the Shadows of Night plan was finally begun; they were to take over the kingdom and kill the queen and king. But when the king and queen announced that the queen carried a baby, there was nothing they could do. You see, there are rules in this game. One cannot kill the enemies baby, even if it is not born yet and therefore if they didn’t kill him, he would eventually come back to take revenge for the murder of his parents. And if they did kill the baby, their kingdom would go very badly; it would be natural disasters, and the gods of order would take their revenge on the Shadows for not following the rules. And so, six months went by, and the chosen one of the Shadows, called Morpheus after the God of Sleep, grew a year. Now, he was 13 as he did not grow as normal kids, nor did he care about the playful things in life. As Morpheus became 13, he started to find a way out of this mess with the baby. And he did; the solution was to remove the baby from this time and place. After a visit to the founders of the Shadows, and the true rulers, creatures you may have heard of as vampires and werewolves (although it lives many more creatures of nightmares here in this world, but these are the only ones that are proved to be alive), he managed to find a way to do this; he was to remove the baby, and thereby create a world in which he could live. His father and mother were to be executed on the same night, and everything would go as the prophecy said. And so, the baby was born and the strange plan was set out in life. Moments after the boy of the king and queen was born, he was sent away to be taken his first bath. Neither the king, nor the queen was with on this ritual; they were both exhausted by the birth, and happy that their boy and his mother both had survived. But in the cleaning room, the cleaner was aborted by the Shadows; Morpheus and some soldiers killed him in cold blood, and as this was done, Morpheus did what it was his destiny to do; he created a hole in time, and sent the boy in it, so that he was plunged and lost into the depths of time and alternate universes. The only thing is that when a hole is created as big as this hole was, the hole is linked to just another time the first seconds. And as it was then the newly born boy was sent through, he was just sent in to a mysterious future, but at the same place. Now, where the castle is now, there is in the future a hospital, where my wife delivered our only baby. But before we tell that piece of the story, the medieval story will have to come to an end. As the king and queen heard what was going on, the king hurried to the cleaning room. He opened the door which went in to the room at that time, and in front of that door, on the other side, stood Morpheus. He was on his way to close the hole in time, and now also space, but before he could do this, the king opened the door and Morpheus was pushed into unknown territory. The hole in space and time still stood open, and, from this moment on, mysterious things were always happening in the cleaning room from time to time. The cleaning room lost its function, because some of the people that went in to the room by mistake never came back out. Now, our story is not about them; it’s about Morpheus and the unknown baby. And as we now have arrived at the second part of the story, it is night again and time to go to bed”. It will happen more in this episode, like trips in the shops, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Now, in the 13th episode, things will begin to happen. As the third part is more of filler-episodes, to get the background story in place, it is now things begin to happen, and our real questions are answered. Like the one about the mysterious-looking body in the woods…! Walter continues his story first, and as this is the second part of the story, the episode is begun under the earth, with the Shadows. They say things like, “It’s almost time. The interference has been fixed. Destinies are to be fulfilled. Soon. Very soon.” Then, it is back at the kids and Walter: “Now that you have heard the first part of the story, this is where the hard part begins. Donnie’s told me that you have some theories, and he’s asked some questions, but I have not answered them. I will now begin at the second part of the story, as it happened. Rachel and I were very excited to have our first baby. And when he was born dead, I was the only one that got to know it. Rachel suspected that something was wrong, but I never answered her questions about it. Now, I will tell you the entire true story about what happened that night. As my wife gave birth, I met some mysterious guys in black suits, which started to talk to me. They said that Rachel was giving birth to a dead baby right now. And then they asked if I was going to accept this fact and take the baby they had. Further on, they said that I was the only one that could bring him on the right path. They were right about everything, of course, and as I asked how they could know all of this, they just looked at me in an extremely strange and unpleasant way. I said that I had to get back to my wife, and they replied that if I changed my mind, they would wait here. When I got back to Rachel, the doctor said that the baby had died. I asked if he was sure, and then I asked to hold him. The doctor agreed to this, and gave me the little dead body. I cried a lot then, and walked across the hall and back to the men in the black suits. There, I gave them the little dead body, and I was given the prince that was chosen to fight Morpheus. When I came back to the doctor, I just said that he’d suddenly started moving, and I ran back here. The doctor was shocked till death; it was a miracle, he said. From this moment on, my wife didn’t know a thing about the black men, and she still thinks it was a miracle that the baby survived. We called the baby from the medieval time Donnie, and as the great scientist I am, I started to figure out what his destiny was. The men in the black suits helped me, they sent me e-mails with all the information they could gather. And I made a time-machine. To test it, I travelled back in time. I knew that I was supposed to send you back to the medieval time, but in case the machine didn’t work, I didn’t want to fuck everything up. I didn’t know the consequences to what could happen. So I sent myself back in time, and then I fucked everything up. Because there was nothing I could do to come back. The time-machine itself stayed in the time I travelled from, and if my calculations are correct, it destroyed itself too.” Then, Walter looks at Donnie. “Yes, it’s true. The day you disappeared, we heard a large explosion and there was a fire in the garage. We never saw you again, and your machine was lost in the fire”, he tells them. Walter breathes relieved out. “Glad I hid my files so that you could get the other machines to work, then, huh?” At this time, they all hear screams from outside. It was one of the Shadow members that stood in the middle of everything. The kids and Walter ran out the door, to see what it’s all about.

Episode order will look like this:

  • Episode 11

-        In which they arrive, are written in and a story is begun

  • Episode 12

-        In which the story is continued, and things starts to happen

  • Episode 13

-        In which another part of the story is revealed, and the Shadows step forward

  • Episode 14

-        In which the Shadows attack, and our heroes goes into hiding

  • Episode 15

-        In which the story is concluded, and the battle is begun
