ScriptFrenzy, Weekend One

Well, it's been a pretty uneventful weekend, so there's been plenty of time to write. I wrote a little over 6 pages on Friday, and followed up with a crisis that the script was shit; it was too cheesy, with bad dialogue and one-dimensional characters. Thanks to some friends who helped me see that this had potential, I stayed on the project, and kept on writing.

Starday came, and I started the seventh page. It didn't take long before I remembered the massive problem with my antagonists, and even if this wasn't something I needed to fix right away, I used it (along with Skype, MSN and Facebook-games (Tetris Battle is way, way too addictive than it has any right to be)) as an excuse not to write. After doing that for about an hour, I called up a friend of mine, and discussed the problem with him. The result? I managed to fix the problem! It's been two days, and my friends have already been unbelievaby helpful. Thanks, guys!

Before the day was over, I'd written two more pages, making a total of nine pages. I went to bed late, now unsure of this was the movie I wanted to write, the antagonist/character problem came back to haunt me and I didn't know if I'd solved it in a way that made sense. Going to sleep, I said to myself that I'd look differently at it in the morning.

I didn't.

I really hate this screenplay. The story is cool enough, but the backstory doesn't make much sense, and I don't know why some of the characters are acting as they are. So now I have a problem - do I spend a lot of time writing/coming up with the backstory? Do I keep things simple, stick to my Beat Sheet and ignore everything else? Or do I start another project?

I have decided to stick with it. I'm going to keep it simple. I'm going to stick to my Beat Sheet. I'm going to write the first, very rough, draft of this screenplay in April, and then I'm going to figure out the past and future of these characters, and maybe write a prequel or a sequel. I'm not giving up.

I hit 10 full pages on Sunday. Let's hope this'll work out.
